An ultrasound scan, also known as sonography, is a medical exam that uses high-frequency sound waves, not radiation, to obtain live images from the inside of your body. Ultrasound exams allow providers to see problems with organs, vessels, and tissues without needing to make an incision.
At Cape Fear Arthritis Care, musculoskeletal ultrasounds are being performed to allow Dr. Snow to evaluate and/or diagnose different types of arthritis as well as help identify underlying causes of joint pain. An ultrasound scan may take anywhere from 20-40 minutes, depending on the joint being scanned.
